1.Natural Gas in and around Qeshm Island.
In addition to two gas fields on the Island (Gavarzin and Salakh), Qeshm is located in close proximity to 5 other gas fields.

On the island itself, the Gavarzin field yields two million cubic meters of sweet gas annually and has reserves of 41 bcm while the untapped field of Salakh has estimated reserves of 58 bcm. Qeshm's proximity to these fields suggests that refineries can be commercially attractive. Authorities indicate the product is of high quality and low in Sulphur.

Gas Fields In And Around Qeshm

In addition, Qeshm is in close proximity to the developed field of Sarkhun (317 bcm in reserves) and undeveloped fields at Gashu (197.2 bcm), Suru (44.2 bcm), West Namak (17.6 bcm), and Hengam (offshore, 50 bcm).

The laying of a 20 inch Sirri- Qeshm gas pipeline commissioned by the Continental Shelf Oil Company and the National Iranian Oil Company was completed, reaching Qeshm after traversing a distance of about 107 kilometers. The pipeline has a delivery capacity of 1.2 – 2 million cubic meters of gas. With the development of the offshore gas fields of Hengam (mentioned above), Salman and Saleh, the quantity of gas passing through the island on its way to the mainland will increase dramatically.

2. Petroleum Product Storage.
Qeshm Island was found to be ideally located as a support storage facilities for crude oil and petroleum products for both Kharg island and Bandar Abbas. This was based on a Foster Wheeler study, conducted for the NIOC and as a result of this study, the NIOC has mandated the Oil Industries Engineering & Construction Company (OIEC) to conduct the various feasibility studies in order to construct a 30 million barrels of crude oil storage facility on Qeshm Island. With the completion of this facility, Qeshm Island will become a central storage facility serving the various needs of both Kharg Island and Bandar Abbas and it is foreseeable that it will serve as a main hub for the transit of crude oil between various points on the mainland and global markets as well as a refueling point for ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz waterways.

3. Peace Pipeline.
Construction has begun on the Iranian portion of the Peace pipeline with a capacity in excess of 100MCM/day. This pipeline is slated to pass in close proximity to Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island has received a 10MCM/day allocation from the gas transiting through this pipeline. This allocation is slated for the development of petrochemical and power based industries on Qeshm Island, products which can be exported regionally and globally.
