Facilities and Services

1. Qeshm International Airport. Covering an area of 2000 hectares and located centrally on Qeshm Island, Qeshm International Airport is a full service airport serving domestic flights and international flights to and from neighboring countries. With a runway length of 4200 meters, Qeshm Airport can accommodate a variety of aircrafts. Recently an expansion project has been approved by the economic council and financing of 81M USD has been provided for the expansion project.

2. Potable Water. Currently Qeshm Island’s desalination and purification plant can provide up to 7500 cubic meters of drinking water to the island’s population. In order to meet the expected future needs of the island, an underwater pipeline is being laid to carry drinking water from Bandar Abbas to Qeshm Island. The pipeline project consists of 10 kilometers of underwater and 80 kilometers of dry land pipeline. The pipeline will have a capacity of 500 liters per second. At present, the QFA has allocated 3 M USD to this project.

3. Electricity. Qeshm Island is currently connected to the national grid via 400KV power transmission lines. Current plans include the construction of two to three power plants in order to supplement the island’s power supply and to provide power back to the national grid.

4. Telecom. Currently the island is served by 15 digital hubs with a total capacity of 30,000 lines. Furthermore, 4 BTS systems are being developed in order to provide mobile services. Moreover, in order to meet the growing need for high bandwidth lines, the island is behind laid with fiber optic cables. Within a short period of time, the island will have complete fiber optic cable coverage.

5. Transportation.  Qeshm has been actively building its road infrastructure and currently has over 500 kilometers of asphalt roads. A major highway from Qeshm to Dargahan is in the final stages of construction and will be inaugurated shortly.

6. Persian Gulf Bridge. With the growing need to transport goods produced or offloaded in Qeshm Island to the mainland, the authorities have undertaken the project to develop the Persian Gulf Bridge, which will connect Qeshm to the mainland. The bridge will have a span of approximately 2 kilometers and will provide for a rapid and secure transit route for goods to and from the island.

7. Ports and Jetties. As is true with all islands, the ability to deliver goods and services via the seaways remains a major priority. To that effect, QFA has undertaken the task to develop all weather ports along with specialized jetties to meet the needs of its various industrial zones.

A. Kaveh port and jetty. The Kaveh site also has a recently added jetty with solid port facilities. Kaveh port is located in west of Kuvei town in north of the Qeshm Island near the Northern Industrial Zone. This port provide services for up to 100,000 dwt vessels and services as a general cargo, bulk and liquid materials export-import terminal. The Jetty consists of a 230 meter access bridge and 290 meter of quay wall made of steel pile and composite deck structure, with a 19 meter depth and a14 meter depth at the low water, in the north and south fronts of the Jetty respectively. The Jetty will be equipped for all ship loading and unloading facilities with a capacity of 30 Million tons and will also be provided with up to a 250 hectare logistic site including warehouses, open storage area, office space, desalination unit, etc. Future expansions are being planned and the port will have a total of 5 jetties with a combined length of 1620 meters.
B. Bahman port and jetty. Bahman port is located in the eastern section of the island and is one of the most important ports for the transport of cargo and passengers. It currently is adjoined by several service facilities in an area of 24 hectares. The length of the jetty is 170 meters and is slated to be lengthened to 250 meters.

C. Zakeri jetty. Located on the northern shore of Qeshm city, the jetty has facilities to accommodate a variety of vessels including high speed hovercrafts. The jetty serves mostly commuters to and from Bandar Abbas.

D. Fajr jetty. This jetty has a length of 520 meters and is located at kilometer marker 4 of the nearly completed Qeshm Dargahan highway. Its main purpose is to serve commuters from the mainland and the loading and unloading of construction materials.

E. Hamoon jetty. This jetty has its own surf breaker, two artificial lakes and a 320,000 square meter bay. This jetty’s main function is to provide for mooring services for local vessels.

F. Dargahan port and jetty. Dargahan port is located close to Dargahan in the north of Qeshm Island. The function of the new port of Dargahan is to serve Dargahan and nearby villages as a general cargo and passenger terminal. The jetty area is 7000 square meter, provided by land reclamation, having a 90 meter length quay wall made of steel sheet piles with a depth of 6.2 meter depth at low tide. The jetty has east and west facing ramps of 2, 3 and 4 meter ramps to serve a variety of SBM’s located offshore. The jetty can accommodate general cargo vessels of 3000 to 4000 dwt. The logistics area is 7500 square meters with 2000 square meters of office space including the terminals, custom office and a desalination unit.

8. Medical, Educational and Research Centers. Qeshm is home to several research centers, the most recognized of which is The Center for Biotechnological Research of the Persian Gulf. This center is one of the leading biotechnology centers in Iran. Qeshm is also home to several other research centers. Furthermore, Qeshm has higher education service and is a member of the Azad university system. Currently there are 7000 students attending this facility. Finally Qeshm has two medical facilities to meet the needs of the local population.

9. Housing facilities. With the development of the island, QFA has undertaken the task of providing housing facilities for the expected development of the various industrial zones. Several areas have been allocated for housing development and preliminary studies have been completed for these facilities.
